Triangirls: Career Progression 🧭 Adapt to Change 🤸♀️ Birthday Party 🥳 Issue #12
July was a fantastic month for us, celebrated pride, diversity and inclusivity at TAB, and hosted a parenting breakfast event at Compare the Market.
Rachael made a panel appearance on the HIRED stage for RecFest and obviously absolutely smashed it.
The demand has been quite high over summer, and so we've got another two more events this month which we'll tell you a little more about in this newsletter.
Our community is nearly a year old, so we are going to make sure we celebrate that in style. We'll be having a birthday celebration to acknowledge the importance of Triangirls, and to reflect on how far we've come. Our past speakers, sponsors, hosts, allies and partners with receive invites to celebrate this years achievements with us. To put a bash on, we'll need some help from the wider community. If you or your workplace would like to get involved, let us know!
Stay cool ✌🏻

What we were up to in July
🌈 Pride - Building inclusive teams
Hosted by TAB
To celebrate Pride we were joined by Meri Williams, CTO at Monzo, Daniel Irvine software consultant and organiser of Queer Code London, and Anna Fletcher Morris, Head of Delivery at TAB. We spoke about privilege, pronouns, diversity and how we can be more proactive to make inclusive workspaces.
Thank you to TAB for providing us with the perfect space for this event, and to the speakers who spoke with such clarity on such important topics.
🤰 Parenting Breakfast
Hosted by Compare the Market
Thank you to the wonderful attendees that gave us their morning to come and share experiences about parenthood combined with your career. This was our first ever breakfast event, and it definitely went down a treat. We'll plan more of these in the future and so those who can't make it to our evening events won't miss out.
Sarah June Fox from Trainline and Haley Gould from Compare the Market both presented us with their experiences. We were all blown away by the candidness of the talks. To have a glimpse into behind the scenes of motherhood was hugely valuable to those planning to grow their families while bossing it at work. It certainly was an inspirational way to start the morning. If you didn't manage to join us, you can catch a summary on our Instagram Story.
Upcoming Events
✨ Wednesday 14th August - Career Progression
Sponsored by Idean
This month is all about career progression. We'll be talking about how to get promoted in-house and balancing time when you step up to manage people.
Our headline speaker is Jane Austin, Director of Product Design at Babylon Health who will talk to us about in house promotion.
Many designers want to work in house, designing and building products. However, it takes more than simply being a great designer to succeed when you work in these environments. In this talk, I'll tell you all the non design skills that you rarely get taught and are somehow supposed to pick up along the way. I'm hoping you will leave with a toolkit of ideas that will help you thrive (and maybe even get promoted) at work.
We are super pleased to have Jane join us again, we highly recommend you follow Jane on twitter as she's shares some great insights into the tech community & events she attends.
Valeria Adani, Service Design Director at Idean will be speaking about hw to balance hands-on and hands-off time when you're moving from practitioner to leader.
Join us at Idean for a career and confidence boost!

✨ Thursday 29th August - Workshop: Making Change work for you
Sponsored by Potato
Change is something we will encounter both in our private lives and professionally. Having the tools not only to adapt but to respond positively to change is incredibly valuable, we look forward to sharing some techniques during the evening.
In the workshop, together we'll identify an area of your life where change might be impacting you and, using a creative exercise, help you to frame it more positively and take action on it.
Lamxi Kerai is an Agile Coach at Potato and will be facilitating the workshop, we've got a handy overview on medium where you can read a little bit more about why Laxmi will be facilitating a workshop with us.
