Triangirls: Happy New Year! 🎄🎁🥂 - Issue #6
Happy New Year! I hope you all managed to find the perfect balance of celebration and relaxation.
I feel a huge sense of achievement as I wave goodbye to 2018. I can't help but grin about the friendships I've watched blossom, and how quickly and naturally Triangirls have taken an active role in learning and sharing. This year will be a very special year for us, as we will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary. I am really looking forward to what we have in store for you all!
At our last social, we had the pleasure to be hosted by Busuu. We tuned in to the wise words of Jane Austin from Babylon Health and Sära Furlong from Octopus Labs. During the evening, we passed a couple of notebooks around to give the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback. I was stunned to read such kind words: we will treasure them forever. We also have some fantastic ideas and helpful feedback on what you would each like to see in the future.
Rachael and I are incredibly excited to share our plans for this year with you at our next social, so we hope to see you there.
Wishing you a wonderful 2019 ✨

🔜 Upcoming Social
For this month's social we'll be heading to the pub on Jan 31st - let's shake away those January blues, gossip, and dance the night away!
We need venue recommendations in central London. Ideally we'll need a pub or bar with long / large tables so we will all fit. Bonus points for great bar snacks. Reply to this email if a location comes to mind.
If you'd like to join, let us know to give us an idea of numbers.
✅ November Social - Sponsored by Busuu
"It's wonderful to see so many enthusiastic, curious and talented women in one room." - November Attendee
A massive thank you to Busuu for being our wonderful sponsors. They provided us with an impressive range of pizza and drinks. The event ran like clockwork, and we know how much work it takes to make it seem effortless. It felt like an absolute breeze, and allowed us to focus on catching up with everyone. We are really appreciative of that.
Jane Austin: The Three Stages of Leadership
Jane is an award-winning designer and has spoken and given keynotes at conferences all over the world. She is the Director of Product Design at Babylon Health, the UK’s leading digital healthcare service. Her talk ‘The Three Stages of Leadership’ covered the transitions she took. Jane admits that each of these three stages of leadership were very tough, painful, and sucky. She spoke about the mistakes she made and the lessons she learned, and gave us hard-won advice so that when we get promoted we won’t suck at all.
Jane gave this talk at the Leading Design Conference, and so if you missed out, you can find a recording of the talk here.
"Great cosy talks - a safe space to share. No waffle, just great nuggets of knowledge. Sharing is caring." - November Attendee
Sära Furlong: Nice girls don't ask
Sära is currently a Design Lead for Octopus Labs, London. Formally Design Lead at IBM Watson and Karmarama (Accenture Interactive). In Sara’s lightning talk, she discussed some of the studies that suggest why women are on average less likely than men to negotiate for what they want. Sära also shared some tips from her own career experience on how we can help to combat this problem together in our own small way.
Hayley Seamarks took such beautiful photos of the evening, you can find them all on our website.
🎄 Trianglemas
Turns out designers put on one hell of a party! Who knew? 😉
Rachael and Anna helped organise what can only be described as the biggest and best night of the year. It was awesome to see a few of our Triangirls representing.
Shout out to Freetrade, Marvel, Nested and Move. We couldn't have done it without our sponsors.
If you took any snaps that night, please add your photos here!
🤝 Partnerships
Triangirls events are supported by sponsorship and volunteers. They help us with venues, food, drinks and organisation during the evening.
It's thanks to our sponsors that Triangirls remains open and accessible to all women and non-binary folks.
Do you have a large breakout space in your office, an auditorium, or just a really nice large kitchen?
By partnering, you will have the pleasure of meeting a bunch of smart women, from the design and tech industry. Your workplace will be able to share any opportunities with the community, and give an insider view of what life is like working alongside your team. As part of the host package, your recruitment efforts will be shared in our monthly newsletter, on Twitter and in the Triangles Invite-only Slack (500+ members).
